Time now for number six. So…what was the song that brought the Nineties to a close in Australia and welcomed 2000? Vanessa Amorosi’s “Absolutely Everybody” Performed just shy of the steps of the Sydney Opera House, it was also sung at the closing of the 2000 Sydney Olympics and was something of an anthem for the generation. It’s a song close to my heart and to this day it still gets me to my feet. It’s pure positivity.
Vanessa Amorosi’s “Absolutely Everybody”.
“Absolutely Everybody”
(Absolutely Everybody, everybody, everybody)
(Absolutely Everybody, everybody, everybody)
(Absolutely Everybody, everybody)
Absolutely Everybody (everybody, everybody)
Absolutely Everybody, yeah (everybody, everybody)
Absolutely Everybody (everybody, everybody)
Absolutely Everybody, yeah (everybody)
Everybody needs a little loving
Everybody needs somebody thinking of them
Everybody needs a little respect
And whatever it takes, I’m gonna get it
Everybody needs a hand to hold
Someone to cling to when the nights are getting cold
I’m no different, I am just the same
A player in the game
Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody
Absolutely everybody in the whole wide world
Absolutely everybody
Every boy and every girl
Absolutely everybody, yeah (everybody)
Everybody needs a human touch
I can’t live without it, it means too much to me
Everybody needs one true friend
Someone who’ll be there until the very end
And absolutely everybody breathes
And everybody, everybody bleeds
We’re no different, we’re all the same
Players in the game
Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody
Absolutely everybody in the whole wide world
Everybody breathes
And everybody needs
Absolutely everybody, yeah
Absolutely everybody (everybody)
Absolutely everybody, yeah (woah)
Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody (players in the)
Absolutely everybody, yeah (game)
Every boy and girl
Every woman and child
Every father and son
I said now everyone
Yes, now everyone
Everybody needs a human touch
Everybody, everybody needs love
I’m no different, I am just the same
A player in the game
Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody
Absolutely everybody in the whole wide world
Everybody breathes
And everybody needs
Absolutely everybody, yeah
Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody
Absolutely everybody in the whole wide world
Everybody breathes
And everybody needs
Absolutely everybody, yeah
Absolutely everybody (yeah)
Absolutely everybody
Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody (woah)
Absolutely everybody, yeah (everybody)
Absolutely Everybody
I am actually unfamiliar with this one. It sounds very good. Thanks for the recommendation.

I was also unfamiliar with this song, but it certainly has an upbeat and positive message, very infectious. Disclosure: The 2000 Olympics occurred during a time when I didn’t even have a TV in the house, so it’s understandable why I missed this. I didn’t watch TV for over a decade, a period when I was trying to “find myself”. It seems absurd now, and it probably was, but at least you have another piece of trivia about a small-town boy from Oklahoma… 😉

Wow, no TV for a decade? I can hardly imagine going without the internet for a week….says a lot right there. So glad to share this though. You can see highlights of her singing this song on youtube at the closing ceremony, but the version I posted was taken from the Millennium concert in Sydney and had a better audio track. Thank you for sharing ❤

Oh, I had the internet back then, that’s where I got my news. Of course, in the olden days, it took forever just to load a single page, but at the time we didn’t know any better. But seriously, if someone mentioned a TV show that was on from about 92 to 02, I had no idea what they were talking about. Luckily, we can now get entire TV series on DVD, so I’m catching up… 😉

Television lost its appeal to me….in 2009, I think. Like you, I watch most tv series on DVD now. Heh, great minds think alike.

Wow, what a massive production number. I loved the “robot” things going on all around, especially the one on the high wire above the crowd. Great fun!

It was pretty big, though I loved the opening better. 🙂
