My Top Ten Song List – Number 4.

Who could forget the sing along scene in Almost famous, when the band sang this song and there was a sense of unity once more.  Tiny Dancer by Elton John is my pick for my top ten song, number four.  It’s just such a beautiful ballad with Elton’s talent as a piano man showing through.  I do remember though, that there was another version with Tony Danza instead of Tiny Dancer sung instead.  :3

Elton John : Tiny Dancer.

“Tiny Dancer”

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you’ll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she’s in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Jesus freaks out in the street
Handing tickets out for God
Turning back she just laughs
The boulevard is not that bad

Piano man he makes his stand
In the auditorium
Looking on she sings the songs
The words she knows the tune she hums

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you’ll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she’s in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

  1. This is one of those songs where, if I’m with the right group of close friends, when it comes on the radio everybody will sing along, even though most of us can’t carry a tune to save our lives.Good fun, great song. (P.S. My favorite music era is 1970-1975. There were just so many fantastic singers, songwriters, and singer/songwriters during that time. Not that other periods aren’t good, but the early 70s were a goldmine of creativity…)

    • About that period, you have to wonder just how much inspiration came from….well…drugs. So much imagination and thought provoking lyrics. Although, the songs had more of a message, not just a string of words that happened to rhyme. This song will get people in my car singing along.

  2. Great song and captured so well in a great movie. This was my favorite scene in the movie, as it showed the camaraderie and freedom of being on the road. Elton is quite popular on the misunderstood lyrics website as he took poetic license quite often with Bernie Taupin’s lyrics.
