Another horrific crash at Mount Panorama.

This is the big weekend for V8 Supercar racing in Australia, with the action having started yesterday.  But already there has been two crashes that have brought the races to a stop, with the first one yesterday, when Chaz Mostert’s V8 supercar slammed into the wall barriers up on the mountain, taking out a fire Marshall box and injuring five.  Both he and one of the marshals had to be airlifted to hospital.  Today, in one of the support touring car classes, there was the second crash down Conrad straight, when Damien Flack slid off the road and rolled his car till it disintegrated.  Thankfully he was taken to hospital and is said to be okay.

The big race is tomorrow, live on the Ten network Australia.

The Game of the Year.

Simply the best game of Rugby league I have ever seen.

When we all sat down to watch the Grand final, the house was divided into loyalties.  Both teams were from Queensland, my home state and Broncos were the favorites without a doubt.  But, I stuck to my guns and swung my support behind the Cowboys as I had said, and it was the game of the year without a doubt.  The teams both were on the defensive and playing it hard right through the first half, where the bulk of the points were made.  It could really have been anyone’s game I was thinking, but the second half….scores had the Broncs leading….right to the 80th minute….the full time siren, when the Cowboys managed to make a try as the buzzer sounded.  My heart lept out of my chest and I held my breath when the Captain, Johnathon Thurston lined up to kick the field goal and win the match.

Shock of shocks, he booted it and it hit the pole, throwing the match into the golden point which meant that the next scoring try would win the match.  The stadium and those in my house erupted when JT kicked the winning goal….and it was bloody fantastic.  Both teams did us proud, but to see the Cowboys win their first ever Premiership was the icing on the cake for my weekend of footy.

Grand final fever hits Queensland!

This meme pretty much sums up what is going to happen this Sunday when the North Queensland Cowboys face the Brisbane Broncos in what is an all Queensland Rugby league Grand final in Sydney.  The fact that there are no New South Wales teams in the grand final is a first.  In all honesty, I was hoping the finals would be held in Queensland, but I guess sponsorship deals and the fact that the final is always held in Sydney means that it will be a while before they hold it in another state.

The big question is….who am I barracking for?  I am of course a Brisbane girl, but came to live in the north of Queensland a few years back.  So, now my allegiance has changed.  I know Brisbane have won a few premierships before and with Wayne Bennett as Coach who has won 7 out of the 8 finals he has coached a team, that the Broncos would be the favorites.  But…I am a fan of the underdog, and I think many in the North as well as a lot of fans south of the border who hate Brisbane are going to be cheering on the Cowboys for their first ever Premiership.

Whatever happens…it’s going to be a great game.
