Already had a great breakfast up at the racecourse, where there is Aussie celebrations and a whole lot of face painting and flag waving (as well as waving away the flies). What was great to see, was all the different cultures and faces enjoying the sunshine and music.
Australia day means different things to different people. So no matter what part of the world you are from, today is a day to celebrate the Aussie way of life.
This trailer featured on SBS last night, much to my surprise. I can say as a fan of fantasy genre and Oz comedy, its the perfect show for me and I can’t wait to see it. RB

Now this song might evoke some memories, or more recently it was the theme song for the TV series “Puberty Blues” 2012 – 2014. Written and performed by the New Zealand band, Dragon; they rose to fame in the Australian charts, thanks largely to appearances on the ABC’s Countdown. Though they never really made it internationally, they were affectionately adopted by Australia (as we do with most Kiwi bands….LOL). Whilst having a string of hits in the 70’s and then doing some cover work in the 80’s, they are still known to tour today, but sadly without the lead singer, Marc Hunter who died from cancer in 1998.
Ten years in the gaoler’s eye
An’ I’m thinkin’ ’bout my baby
Looking at my life go by
Falling down the streets I’m Rome
An’ I’m laughing at the poor man
Talking to the blind man
See the lady in the street car lights
Colour ‘a la Toulouse
Television and red, red wine
So won’t you tell me
Won’t you tell me the truth
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough oo oo
Are you old enough for love
Time goes and here we stand
Laughing at the side joke
Sinkin’ in the quick sand
The other side of another world
Scratch my back for the coloured girls
Yeah, oh yeah
I just happened to kiss someone
I got the moondog blues
You just happened to be standing there
So won’t you tell me
Won’t you tell me the truth
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough oo oo
Are you old enough for love
See the lady in the street car lights
Television and red red wine
So won’t you tell me
Won’t you tell me the truth
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough oo oo
Are you old enough oh oh
A bit of an Australian classic. This is the extended version of their hit, “Don’t Dream it’s over”. At the time a new and exciting way to showcase their talent through the visual medium of the music video. Picked up by MTV, they went on to win a Grammy, and were adored by the Australian public. The lyrics spoke a great deal of the generation that was the 80’s.
“Don’t Dream It’s Over”
There is freedom within
there is freedom without
Try to catch a deluge in a paper cup
There’s a battle ahead
many battles are lost
But you’ll never see the end of the road
While you’re traveling with me
[CHORUS]
Hey now, hey now
Don’t dream it’s over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won’t win
Now I’m towing my car
there’s a hole in the roof
my possessions are causing me suspicion but there’s no proof
in the paper today
tales of war and of waste
but you turn right over to the T.V. page
[CHORUS]
Hey now, hey now
Don’t dream it’s over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won’t win
Now I’m walking again
to the beat of a drum
And I’m counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only shadows ahead
barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief
Hey now, Hey now
Don’t dream it’s over
Hey now, Hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
You know they won’t win
Here is a song to sing along to. Do it loud! You know you want too. Skyhook’s classic “You just like me cause I’m good in bed” performed live in Melbourne in the 80’s during their reunion tour. Many of the bands song were banned from radio due to their offensive lyrics and tone. No wonder they sold so many records. Enjoy! ~RB~
You just like me ‘cos I’m good in bed (X 4)
You just like me ‘cos I’m good in bed
Yeah that’s what your girlfriend said
You just like me ‘cos I give you some head
You just like me ‘cos I’m good in bed
Well I’ll meet you in the pub at two minutes to ten
You’re all ready to go
Six bottles of beer and a sneer on your face
I’d run but I’m much too slow
You just like me ‘cos I’m good in bed (X 4)
At half past one I’m flat on the floor
Caught like a rat in a trap
Fifteen times a week and you still want more
God you talk such crap
You just like ‘cos I’m good in bed (X 4)
You imagine yourself as Mick Jagger’s girlfriend
He wouldn’t even spit in your eye
I bet you he don’t get raped every weekend
I feel so weak I could die
You just like me ‘cos I’m good in bed (X 4)
You just like me ‘cos I’m good in bed
Yeah that’s what your girlfriend said
You just like me ‘cos I’m good in bed
You just like me ‘cos I’m good in bed
A song that really became something of an anthem for the pub circuit in Australia in the 80’s. Cold Chisel’s “Cheap Wine”, featuring Jimmy Barnes and the band after a big night out. This song is a track from the 1980 album “East”
“Cheap Wine”
Once I smoked a Danneman cigar
I drove a foreign car
Baby that was years ago
I left it all behind
I had a friend, I heard she died
On a needle she was crucified
Baby that was years ago
I left it all behind for my
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Come-on, come-on, come-on
I don’t mind takin’ charity
From those that I despise
I don’t really need your love
I don’t need your love
Baby you can shout at me
But you can’t meet my eyes
I don’t really need your love
I don’t need your love
I got my
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Come-on, come-on, come-on
I’m sitting on the beach drinkin’ rocket fuels – oh yeah!
I spent the whole night breakin’ all the rules – oh yeah!
Mending every minute of the day before
Watching the ocean, watching the shore
Watching the sunrise, and thinkin’ there could never be more
Never be more
Anytime you want to find me
I don’t got a telephone
I’m another world away
But I always feel at home
With my
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Come-on, come-on, come-on
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Come-on, come-on, come-on
