One Hit Wonders – Promises : Baby It’s you.

The single “Baby It’s You” became a smash hit in Europe and around the world (especially in Germany where it reached number 4 in the charts) in February 1979 and Promises received a Gold Album for more than 260,000 selling units. The song was also hugely popular in Australia, largely due to weekly programming of the original film clip on Sunday evening television music show Countdown. The song was subsequently released on a highly popular compilation album in that market. It also reached number one on the New Zealand Singles chart for five weeks. “Baby It’s You” was also a success in South Africa, also appearing on Volume 7 of that country’s long running compilation album series Pop Shop. The video received a lot of airplay on South African television too.

You’re here with me now but you’re saying
you don’t want me any more
you’re holding me now but you’re saying
you can’t see me no no more
you whisper good-bye then cling tighter to me
I can’t take no more.

Baby it’s you
who makes me feel the way that you do
you know I can’t forget you so soon
baby it’s you.

Runing your fingers through my hair
but saying you care no more
you’re kissing my ear with a heart chilling
breath that you can’t no more
laying beside me with legs all around me
I care no more oh no.

Baby it’s you
who makes me do the things that I do
you know I can’t cast aside you so soon
baby it’s you.

Changing the show
adding dramatics to help love grow
your heart is your life
cut it carefully with your knife
don’t leave the world
stay right here
don’t make don’t make anything rough.

Baby it’s you
who makes me feel the way that you do
you know I can’t forget you so soon
baby it’s you.

Baby it’s you
who makes me do the things that I do
you know I can’t cast aside you so soon
baby it’s you.
watching the pretty flowers grow
never again no summer

Blondie – Heart of Glass

Nothing captures early new wave  better than “Heart of Glass” by Blondie.  Filmed in the iconic Studio 54, this clip was heavily featured on Australia’s Countdown.  Interesting to note, Blondie had its first number one hit in Australia, after being discovered by Molly Meldrum when he was interviewing the Rolling Stones in the States.

Heart of Glass is from the Album – Parallel Lines.

“Heart Of Glass”

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind

Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind

In between
What I find is pleasing and I’m feeling fine
Love is so confusing there’s no peace of mind
If I fear I’m losing you it’s just no good
You teasing like you do

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind

Lost inside
Adorable illusion and I cannot hide
I’m the one you’re using, please don’t push me aside
We could’ve made it cruising, yeah

Yeah, riding high on love’s true bluish light

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out I had a heart of glass [radio version]
Soon turned out to be a pain in the ass [album version]
Seemed like the real thing only to find
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind

David Bowie – Young Americans

A real classic for a Friday night.  David Bowie’s Young Americans.  Nothing beats this classic, that showed his diversity and ability to change through the Seventies.  Enjoy!

~RB~

They pulled in just behind the bridge
He lays her down, he frowns
“Gee my life’s a funny thing, am I still too young?”
He kissed her then and there
She took his ring, took his babies
It took him minutes, took her nowhere
Heaven knows, she’d have taken anything, but

All night
She wants the young American
Young American, young American, she wants the young American
All right
She wants the young American

Scanning life through the picture window
She finds the slinky vagabond
He coughs as he passes her Ford Mustang, but
Heaven forbid, she’ll take anything
But the freak, and his type, all for nothing
Misses a step and cuts his hand, but
Showing nothing, he swoops like a song
She cries “Where have all Papa’s heroes gone?”

All night
She wants a young American
Young American, young American, she wants the young American
All right
She wants the young American

All the way from Washington
Her bread-winner begs off the bathroom floor
“We live for just these twenty years
Do we have to die for the fifty more?”

All night
He wants the young American
Young American, young American, he wants the young American
All right
He wants the young American

Do you remember, your President Nixon?
Do you remember, the bills you have to pay
For even yesterday?

Have you have been an un-American?
Just you and your idol singing falsetto ’bout
Leather, leather everywhere, and
Not a myth left from the ghetto
Well, well, well, would you carry a razor
In case, just in case of depression?
Sit on your hands on a bus of survivors
Blushing at all the afro-Sheilas
Ain’t that close to love?
Well, ain’t that poster love?
Well, it ain’t that Barbie doll
Her heart’s been broken just like you have

All night
All night was a young American
Young American, young American, you want the young American
All right
All right you want the young American

You ain’t a pimp and you ain’t a hustler
A pimp’s got a Cadi and a lady got a Chrysler
Black’s got respect, and white’s got his Soul Train
Mama’s got cramps, and look at your hands ache
(I heard the news today, oh boy)
I got a suite and you got defeat
Ain’t there a man you can say no more?
And, ain’t there a woman I can sock on the jaw?
And, ain’t there a child I can hold without judging?
Ain’t there a pen that will write before they die?
Ain’t you proud that you’ve still got faces?
Ain’t there one damn song that can make me
Break down and cry?

All night
I want the young American
Young American, young American, I want the young American
All right
I want the young American, young American whoa whoa

Young American, young American
I want what you want
I want what you want
You want more
I want you
You want I
I want you
I want what you want
But you want what you want
You want I
I want you
And all I want is a young American
Young American

Lindsey Stirling (Ven Tribe) – We Found Love.

Since it’s Boxing day here, I am sharing my favorite songs with you all, and this one is one of the best. Lindsey Stirling’s “We Found Love.”  I really hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

Now we’re standing side by side
What it takes to come alive
It’s the way i’m feeling i just can’t deny
Got to let it go

We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place

Shine a light through an open door
Love and life, i will divide
Turn away cause i need you more
Feel the heart beat in my mind

It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
But I’ve got to let it go

We found love in a holy new place
(Mapenzi, Mapenzi yeah)

We found love in a whole new place
(Mapenzi, Mapenzi yeah)

We found love in a whole new place
We found love in a whole new place
We found love in a whole new place
We found love in a whole new place

(oh wey oh, oh wey oh)
We found love (oh wey oh wey oh)
(oh wey oh, oh wey oh)
We found love (oh wey oh wey oh)

… Mapenzi we
(Mapenzi, Mapenzi yeah)
… Mapenzi we
(Mapenzi, Mapenzi yeah)
… Mapenzi we
(Mapenzi, Mapenzi yeah)
