Abyssmal Garden Path

https://i0.wp.com/i58.tinypic.com/33uczh5.jpg

– The path continued on in a boring silence for quite awhile , nothing seemed to have happened or at least it didn’t seem to . It didn’t seem to change from being a straight path for the time it had went on , until birds actually appeared in the flesh fleeing from the depths of the path ; something similar to a warning if they took into account of the senses of birds and their patterns . They were attempting to get away from something , something that laid within . Eyes began to appear on the walls following the birds , but their expansions stopped as soon as they noticed Grant and Kasumi , blinking rapidly . What were they doing ? What were their purpose ? A voice echoed through their head –

” Deeper deeper you traverse

Attempting to seek the power to save this universe

If you are to claim the power to deceive

Then you must leap into the mouth of the beast ”

Abyssmal Forest

– The eyes released a dark shroud of gases that somehow transported the two into a new area . The land was covered with trees , and it seemed somehow they were lost even moreso then before without any sense of direction . A large slithering sound was heard , what followed was something unnatural and disgusting.-

https://i0.wp.com/i60.tinypic.com/2iozv4.jpg

– The beast emerged , it’s mouth gaping wide as if ready to consume them both ; however upon closer inspection the inside of the beast’s mouth revealed a swirling portal ; what did that mean ? Does it lead elsewhere other then their imminent death and consumption ? Only the two would be able to decide what this had meant . This was their journey. –

– In the same path entrance that Grant and Kasumi took , the hooded person appeared once more standing at the entrance. It had seemed as if the person was assisting the male but then the person spoke to himself-

” My eyes are blind to the deceit

But soon enough our paths will meet

You may have progressed ahead

But we will meet once more. . . ”

– The person removed his hood ; revealing a head of black hair and a male physique with a empty expression on his face but definitely a sinister aura around him. A group of birds began to continuously flock around him –

Abyssmal Garden Path

Grant had a good feeling. Call it fate…call it luck…call it karma. He could just feel that this was the right path to take. Only thing was it was the really boring one. Silence blanketed the path like a thick fog, it was almost deafening. Like nothing lived in this part of the maze. Luckily for Grant, he had Kasumi by his side, though she was not enjoying this at all.

What’s your plan then? Since you rushed in here like a madman.”

“Who said anything about me having a plan?” Grant cocked a brow as he walked along, the sound of dead leaves crushing under foot. “I rushed in cause I was excited. Not every day you get to live out an adventure, now is it?” Either he was a fool for being so chuff about this, or he had no sense whatsoever. To Grant, this was like the Mother of all questing games, and it was real. Real as they came. The fact he had a Kitsune along with him, only added to the fun. Not that Kasumi saw it as that. No, she could pick up on the dangers – even if he couldn’t.

“Besides. the Queen gave me real sword swords!” Yes, she did. Funny that. His synthetic ones would have been no match for whatever dangers were ahead. Grant wiggled his back to show off the fabulous sheathed weapons. So he wasn’t totally unarmed, but could he use them. One would suspect that the only time he had swords that he fought with was when he used a game stick, not the real thing. Grant went to give the Kitsune’s head a pat, when suddenly a whole lot of birds flew out from the maze, while goggly eyes were looking out at the pair from the maze walls. The eyes blinked and stared at Grant as he passed. It was kind of odd to see so many eyes. Eyes without a face. Grant even stopped and stared at the eyes, before darting his head back and forth, up and down to see if the eyes did indeed follow his movements.

“Scared birds…and a wall of eyes?” Something scared the birds…what could it be?

“Something….” His words trailed off as he heard a voice that spoke another riddle.

” Deeper deeper you traverse

Attempting to seek the power to save this universe

If you are to claim the power to deceive

Then you must leap into the mouth of the beast ”

“Hear that? We have to enter a mouth. I wonder if that means the mouth of a cave?’ At least Grant was trying to use that pink mushy thing between his ears. “Come on…” Grant urged, as he led his furry friend further into the maze. Then right on cue…a huge slug like ooga booga beast emerged with a gaping maw that was so large that they would be able to step into it.

https://i2.wp.com/media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mf5o7d4Apn1qzz9rr.png

“That’s one ugly ugly beast! We really have to go into it’s mouth?” Grant was already questioning the whole deal. The riddle said that to claim the power to deceive they had to leap into the mouth. The young man chewed his lip, then looked back at Kasumi. “There is something swirly in that mouth, and not the usual set of pink tonsils. Should we jump in?”He didn’t want to force the Kitsune further, but he really wanted to know if she thought it was the right thing to do.

“I never planned on this.” His voice carrying back to the entrance no doubt.

Kasumi had to say, Grant definitely wasn’t good at reading a situation; the Mist and eerie silence surrounding the duo should have clued him in. Instead he simply stayed excited like nothing could go wrong. And of course that bugged her a lot. The very fact he was happy over the swords as well made her get an even worse feeling about all of this; the feeling she’d have to save his ass. A lot. He didn’t have a plan. Of course he didn’t have a plan, why did she even think he would? This guy was on an adrenaline high, and it would probably get worse. Kasumi did have to admit one thing though, he had guts. Which of course, ended up bringing them to the next issue.

Kasumi was silent, but she snarled and gave a definitely inhuman growl at the beast the moment she saw it. Her grip on Hirai Hime tightened the moment she saw it, and her fur began to bristle within seconds. She didn’t drop this appearance either, till Grant decided to bring up the fact of the riddle; this caused her to drop it, but even so she held the katana tight and kept her stance ready for a fight if needed. Kasumi ran her head through the lines, analyzing and comparing everything as she weighed every possibility before growling to herself and answering; while she did, she extended her hand to Grant.

“Take my hand, and do NOT let go no matter what. Dammit this is insane, but it’s the only way we’ll escape this alive if that’s what I think it is inside of its mouth. So… HOLD ON!”

Once Grant had taken her hand, Kasumi would have taken off at full sprint, giving Grant a feeling of moving fast enough that once they stopped stopped he’d be utterly dizzy. But even so, Kasumi would have dragged the man along until she jumped up, landing square through the mouth of the beast, while preparing to incinerate the beast from the inside out at the first sign of being wrong.

Fu:  Thee Abyss

– Once they had leaped into the mouth it was clear that it was a mouth used for something other then eating , this pathway lead them elsewhere ; someplace completely different. They entered a complete and absolute darkness ; filled with nothing but black , how could one see ? It was similar to just having your eyes entirely shut and attempting to sleep. Moving without any source of direction and with this penalty to the senses how would one move on ? How could they see anything ? If only one of them had a source of light to see . To see where they were and how to progress , would they be able to retrieve what was held in the epicenter of this entire dungeon. Was there something or someone in this darkness ? –

” If you wish to succeed

Cast a Bright Light to see ”

– These two phrases would soon echo into Grant’s mind ; allowing him to hear this personally and it was up to him to decide how he would approach this situation. What would await them once the light was cast ? –

Thee Abyss

Wow that little Kitsune sure was a fiery gal. She was ever ready with the katana drawn in case of something attacking them. Her senses must be spot on and with what they were now facing, Kasumi was on the money. This big super slug from the pits of hell was simply the most gross looking beast imaginable. There was however the spinning vortex that was in its gaping maw that gave the impression that this was more than just a super slug. If you follow the riddle as it was said, then the only way forward was to enter the creature’s mouth. It would be a giant leap of faith in a place that was so sinister, you had to wonder if it was truly the right thing to do. Being a gentleman, and also wanting Kasumi’s opinion, he had put it to her that maybe it was the way to go. Course, she really didn’t want to, but she wasn’t stupid either.

“Take my hand, and do NOT let go no matter what. Dammit this is insane, but it’s the only way we’ll escape this alive if that’s what I think it is inside of its mouth. So… HOLD ON!”

This was so exciting. They were actually going to jump inside the big worm’s mouth. Taking hold of Kasumi’s hand, Grant wrapped his fingers around the Kitsunes and then yelled out.

“JEROMINOOOOOOOOOO!” Leaping with all he had and going deep into the mouth of the beast.

Once inside….it was lights out.

https://bottledtime.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/eyes-in-the-dark.gif

Total darkness. A world of nothing, and no way to see the direction forward or back. Grant still had a hold of Kasumi’s hand, but he couldn’t see her…at all.

“Well this was unexpected.” He thought there would be some illumination. But no, just the inky blackness. Grant thought for a moment, then snapped his fingers.

~Click!~

“I have a little key chain night light, for when I can’t find the lock in my front door. Just a sec, it’s in my back pack.”Reaching around, Grant unzipped the section where his wallet and keys were. He fiddled about in the dark till his fingers touched onto the key chain, which happened to be a rabbit’s foot, along with a lot of keys and the little flash light. It was so dinky, you couldn’t imagine it lighting up much, but bringing it out, Grant flicked it on.

……and then…there was light.

Can you believe that Grant ran…yes ran from the restaurant where he was about to have dinner with Kasumi, when he heard the voice that called out only to him.

? ? ? ” Come………. Come find me……….. It is your destiny to make me yours. ”

Grant had no idea what it was that had sung out to him, but it was his destiny, and although Grant didn’t normally pay attention to the voices in his head, this one was so alluring, that he simply could not resist the temptation. He had a vision, a vision of a grand door that was built into a rock wall many thousands of feet high. Carrying only his backpack and the two swords that had been gifted to him by the Queen, he was not exactly prepared for a quest, but that was exactly what he was getting himself into. As he ran along, arms flailing and babbling about how he was coming, Kasumi might have thought that Grant had lost his marbles. Well, that was how it looked. Surely she could not hear the voice, but she would have heard and felt the earth tremor as the second dungeon appeared.

The young comic con conventioneer ran on…and on till he had left the city limits and was now running through a field, that was between the palace and the last lights of the city. If he had bothered to take notice, a dark mist was rolling across the grasses, which gave this trek a much more sinister feel to it. How on earth Grant had so much energy to keep mindlessly running towards his goal would be beyond understanding, however, what called him had made a connection that defied logic. This wasn’t about fate. This was about destiny.

Soon the large imposing rock wall monolith was before him. It overshadowed everything, with two tall pylons that went up into the sky, featuring large gruesome statues at the top. Peering down at the man and Kitsune. There was a stairway that led to two ancient rock doors. Carved into the very stone face. Only one problem, there were no knockers, no bells…..no sign of how they were to open.

Approaching the doors, Grant finally bent down and placed his hands on his knees and started to catch his breath.

Main Theme: I’ll carry on

Kasumi was not, and to repeat, was NOT in the mood for anyone’s crap. The very fact of her ears still being flat on her head while she ran beside Grant, and the look of uncomfortable fear, gave an almost cuter look to her for once. Something that hadn’t been seen yet. You could tell the earthquake had shaken her up, and she wasn’t happy about that at all. Sure, she felt fine from the light now, that wasn’t the issue at this point. It was the fact she was mortally terrified, but she couldn’t let Grant go on his own. He might need the help of someone used to Illusions and other such things. Who knew what was in there, and whatever was in there wasn’t going to be super friendly. She knew that, but honestly. She didn’t give a flying care in this world. She had to watch out for the kid, especially now that he was going to get himself involved in a hell of a lot of trouble.

Kasumi kept up with Grant easily, but unlike him she was way, way more in tune with such a sinister feeling; the dark mist that surrounded the duo caused her fur to stand on end, making her shiver as she ran, only making her look even more cutesy and nervous. Which . . . hopefully didn’t give Grant any wrong ideas. Even with the physiology of a canine, Kasumi was far faster, stronger and more powerful than any dog. Surely this man could understand that much at least…. could he? How much anime had he seen about Kitsune? Hopefully enough to understand that they were nothing to really play with. Who really knew? She knew enough about the world to know that anime didn’t get everything right, but they got the fact that all Yokai are incredibly strong correct. Insanely strong. Maybe not so to everything, but even so. They were powerful, and they could grow stronger as they aged. Kitsune naturally grew stronger as they grew older and obtained more tails; and considering the fact that their abilities make them completely unpredictable makes it difficult for many people to take them on easily.

Kasumi slowed as they reached the doors, but definitely stuck right beside Grant. Nervous as hell and ready to bolt at any moment. Who could blame her though..?

Fu:  Abyssmal Core Gate –> Abyssmal Garden Maze

– The gate slowly opened , creaking as it progressively continued to reveal what laid within. It sensed Grant, and therefore it was content with the outcome , it creaked as it continued to open . How much further until it was over ? How much longer ? The inside of the door would initially shine a blinding white light but dimmered into a ghastly darkness , beckoning whoever stood at the face of it inside. There was no turning back here , clearly danger of some sort would lay inside. The two more or less would have to put their skills to the test . What skills would be most vital here? The entrance had a extremely strong suction that would pull them in instantly and once inside they would find themselves –

https://i1.wp.com/i60.tinypic.com/flc58n.jpg

– The two found themselves at the entrance of a maze with numerous pathways , and overhead they could see a large white light spiralling somewhere in the middle of the area . The numerous entrances into the maze were quite foggy, all of them were at differing degrees and something felt odd. Something weird. The entrances each gave off a different feeling and it was clear that this was also about luck of the choice , navigation and understanding . These paths were mysterious and lush nature covered some of the pathways and even the thoughts on how to proceed seemed difficult but thankfully a person appeared not too long after. It seemed this person was going to help them to some degree. –

Seeker of the mask

Come forth and choose a path

If it is treasure that you seek

Look for the trail that the birds flee

– The Elderly person cackled and turned, walking towards one of the pathways of the maze before the figure itself collapsed upon itself and left only the robe and the orb that it held , upon inspections of the other pathways ; only one path : The left-center path held several bird feathers at the entrance . What was the choice these two will make ? –

Abyssmal Core Gate –> Abyssmal Garden Maze

Like something out of a really cool questing game, or even a wicked old adventure movie, the great wall of rock groaned loudly. Bits of small broken rock tumbled down, as the side of the mountain was preparing to open its belly to the pair that stood before it’s doors. Having been totally consumed by the voice inside his head, it was only now that he realized that Kasumi the Kitsune had been right by his side the whole way from the restaurant. And to top it off she didn’t even look like she had broken a sweat in the run from town. It made him realize that the girl was not about to leave him to a possible dangerous fate behind those doors. For a moment, Grant wondered if he could live with himself if something happened to the Kitsune.

Light. Blinding enough to make the pair almost heed to turn their heads away as it was simply too dazzling for words. This was what welcomed the pair. “Woah.” Grant was one of few words when it came to something as marvelous and fanciful as what they were facing. Grant needed to shield his eyes, till the strong light started to fade. The inner power had now felt that the chosen one was finally here.

But before he could speak again, there was a vacuum like pull that occurred as the doors opened fully. This meant that Grant and Kasumi were both dragged into the massive temple like building. Their feet scraping along the ground as the power within brought them deeper inside. It was only when they were inside that the doors closed in behind them.

Grant spun around sharply. Trying to get his bearings, and also seeing that the doors were indeed shut tight. Trapping the pair inside. The only way to go was forward. What confronted the pair was a massive maze, and in the distance you could see the spiraling affect of a bright light at what might possibly be the center of it all. But which way to go? That answer would come in the shape of a being that approached Grant and Kasumi. Grant kept looking behind the individual, still trying to take in all he could about the maze. Lush and dark, it looked to house exotic creatures, if he didn’t know better. Like on some strange island. Only this was in the side of a mountain.

Seeker of the mask

Come forth and choose a path

If it is treasure that you seek

Look for the trail that the birds flee

Seeker of the mask? Grant wondered for a moment, and then realized that the elderly person was talking to him. Grant touched his chest to show he questioned that it was him, before lowering his arm and then taking heed of the first instruction. Come forth and chose a path

With multiple paths, it was a case of which one to chose, but the riddle continued that if it was treasure that he sought, then he needed to look for the trail that birds flee.

https://i0.wp.com/www.wallpapername.com/thumbnails/detail/20121102/spice%20and%20wolf%20animal%20ears%20craft%20lawrence%20holo%20the%20wise%20wolf%201920x1080%20wallpaper_www.wallpapername.com_79.jpg

The elderly robed man then walked into one of the other paths and collapsed in on himself, taking the orb with him. Like a guide, but one that only gave away clues, not clear instructions.

“Look for the trail that the birds flee.”

There was one, that had several bird feathers at the entrance. Now, if a bird panics and flees, they often drop tail feathers. it was not uncommon. Bending down, he picked up one of the feathers and then stared down that path.

“I’m going to try this one. Birds were here.” Motioning for the Kitsune to follow. Grant started down the left center path.

Kasumi was completely on edge, as aforementioned; though, as one might expect, she swallowed that fear and stayed next to Grant. Completely, and utterly, ready and willing to pick him up and bolt at the slightest sign of any real danger to his health. Of course, that’s when the doors began to open, and her hand flew back and gripped the handle of the nearest weapon she had without having to create one. Hirai Hime, the very weapon that her father had given her; a weapon that she held entirely dear to her heart as it was the last connection to him that she had. Without much thought behind the action, she drew the weapon, extending it and morphing it into its true state with every moment that she pulled it from its sheath; revealing a three foot long katana with a white blade and a white wire hilt-wrap. Her grip was loose on the weapon, letting its tip point away and out from her body towards the ground; keeping it out of her way whenever the duo got dragged straight into the place.

Kasumi too, just as well as Grant, listened to the woman’s words, only with less excitement and far more caution. Something that should have been obvious to anyone; but then again, Grant wasn’t the brightest crayon in the box when it came to things like this. Kasumi was actually looking back and forth between several of the paths, trying to discern a bit of information from them using her sight, smell and hearing but to no avail until Grant immediately said something about going down a path. While she had noticed the feathers, caution was ruling her actions at the moment, not her predator instincts; she was a sentient being after all, she did have a train of thought other than hunt, kill, repeat. Kasumi ran up to him, walking with him while speaking in an almost impatient tone of voice.

“Mister Taylor, are you nuts? I understand your excitement, but caution and common sense should be pr-“

Kasumi let out a sigh, cutting herself off at the beginning of a word. This wasn’t the time to be lecturing him, no; if they got out of this alive on the other hand…. Well, he was in for a damn good lecture from her. Kasumi looked up at him as they walked, keeping pace with ease while also giving him room to avoid hitting him with Hirai Hime, as much as she would love to give him a few gentle taps on the head with the back of the blade.

“Never mind, enough of my own idiocy. God knows I’m not always the most sensible. What’s your plan then? Since you rushed in here like a madman.”

At that, Kasumi gave a small laugh, her head dropping before she looked back up at the man with a smile.

“We shall.”

With the speed of her movement to wind her arm around Grant’s elbow and bring herself closer to him, Kasumi managed to again take the young man by surprise. He couldn’t help but stare down at her as she moved in so close. This must have been a cultural thing, for you don’t normally take the arm of a stranger. Grant certainly wasn’t used to it. But, he quickly regained his composure and began to escort the kitsune through the busy crowds towards one of the conventions restaurants, called “The Jolly Jumbuck.” A funny name but it was based on an old poem and had a large picture of a sheep that was baaing, illuminated in neon. It was an all you could eat restaurant, though that did have a fine print clause that you didn’t eat so much that you exploded.

Going up to the front counter, Grant asked for a table for two. The young pimply faced young man wearing the paper hat and cheerful smile handed Grant a tray with two plates, cutlery and two cups. “Go down to table 12 and we shall bring you out the complimentary break sticks.”

Thanking the young man, Grant tried to carry the tray, with Kasumi still threaded on his arm. Naturally, many of the customers were watching the pair come in, a few were whispering – much of it was about how cute Kasumi was. One young boy was egging to pull her tail. Children…

http://visualioner.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/121127i6.jpg

Finding their table, they were seated close to where the long buffet bar was. A virtually smorgasbord of delights with hot and cold dishes, salads, all kinds of roasts, soups, pastas and of course a massive desert buffet with a ice cream vending machine. The variety of scents and smells were enough to make you salivate, and already there was something of a line up by the hungry patrons.

Pulling out a chair for Kasumi, after setting down his plate, Grant asked.

“Would you like me to get you a drink, while you go fill up a plate?’

Kasumi was actually entirely used to doing this, she had even done it with her brother… ahem. Father. Kasumi had to shake that subject out of her head, considering it was a slightly taboo… subject. She had done this with her father of course, but with her brother having gone missing long ago, she never talked about him. Nor did the rest of the family. Her only family left was him, if he was even alive. But anyway, not the point here. Typically, this wouldn’t be completely customary, in fact it was a bit different than what most would’ve done. Normally, in a country like the one Kasumi’s family hailed from, this might have been slightly rude to a stranger, however new places require amendments. Hence why Kasumi had a tendency to . . . do this. Once they had entered the restaurant, Kasumi almost immediately began to feel overwhelmed. She grew up for a hundred years as a fox for crying out loud, and even then her family was more traditional in the end. Her ears continued to flick, honestly avoiding saying anything about the whispers she easily picked up as though she was whispering with them. She didn’t see the young boy who was wanting to pull her tail, and if she had she would’ve pulled her tail out of his reach in an instant. Luckily they got seated soon though, which made things a lot better.

Kasumi looked at Grant with a smile, nodding at his question quietly. Normally she’d do it on her own, but it wasn’t polite to refuse a request from a gentleman.

“Thank you, mister Taylor. I will take you up on that.”

Perhaps she seemed fairly out of place talking the way she did, but that was how she was raised. It was a bit abnormal, but her family had come from an older era than most. Feudal Japan wasn’t the kindest back then, and it was strict on rules as much as it was pride and honor. Two things Kasumi took seriously. She didn’t take long to really get everything together, going after the things she knew she could stomach, which meant a lot of meatier products. She did have a canine’s internal system after-all, corn and things like that didn’t agree as much. Even with a more human body, it didn’t always agree. Depended on what it was. Once she’d gotten to the table again, she sat and waited on Grant, letting him return before she started. Politely, and patiently. She’d embarrassed him enough for one day.

There were so many different types of food to try in this amazing little buffet restaurant. Grant had taken the liberty of getting Kasumi a drink from the beverage bar, and brought it back over to their table. It was as he was setting down the glasses, that there was a god awful blast of light, much like lightning smashing into the earth right outside the restaurant. It was enough to rattle the very panes of glass within the window frames and brought about attention from waitresses and patrons alike.

“Woah!” the young man was shocked by the sudden blast of light and even put his hand up to shield his eyes. What on earth could have caused such a thing? Taking a peek past one of the waitresses, he saw the arrival of a very large being decked head to toe in armor. Exquisitely made and so shiny. Wow, this convention went all out with who they invited. The pyrotechnics were amazing. Yes, Grant thought this was part of some Hollywood like show to give the convention goers a thrill. Had Grant known who it REALLY was, well, he never would have believed it.

“That must have taken a month of Sunday’s to make. Wow, I wonder if he works with the costume department at Burkett Studios?” So many questions and Grant couldn’t help but continue to marvel the armored man, as he entered the restaurant. The patrons parted like the red sea to let the man through where he was followed to his table by another man. Both had weapons on. Holy cow! Grant was a little awe struck by the whole thing. He had completely forgotten about Kasumi.

“Sorry I got so carried away. So, fancy some soup…or maybe you might want to take your pick of the salad bar?” He was not entirely sure what Kitsunes ate.

His mind and his posture had showed that he was here on a mission , not a simple traveler yet he did look like one . The male pointed his head upwards at the sky towards the white sphere ; Celestia as if being before God’s very presence. He kept his gaze up towards the sphere while his hands weaved in a pendulum-like pattern.-

” With my eyes I percieve the potential in your irregularity , with my brain I can imagine the possibilities , with my hands I will sculpt the path for you to take , with my heart I shall give birth to this new deceit . Come forth , Abyssmal Core

– A large rumbling sound could be heard by all and all shaken from the tremors , regardless of distance within Alteria . A Dungeon appeared within the walls , but only Grant could sense this place directly and get there without any trouble. As if a link was established. The dungeon was located in the fields between the palace and the rest of the city , but it was shrouded in a dark mist. –

God sometimes, in all honesty she couldn’t blame him. He was the type of guy who didn’t get out much, but she was extremely brash and hot-headed. Though, at least now she was calming down. She let go of his coat, nodding to each question as an affirmative, well. Not every question. She had to struggle not to let her temper go flying out the window again, considering it was a potential risk to her health in some cases. If it ever got strong enough anyway. Yes she looked young, and by Kitsune standards she’d barely be considered in her teens. Let alone a full-grown Kitsune. Kitsune could live for thousands of years on occasion, if they were lucky, and most of the time by the time they got to that age they had become Nine-Tails.

But MAN was this guy clueless with women. Ooooooooooooh she wanted to punch him so badly~ All she wanted was to just sock him, sock him nice and good right across the head~ But, no. No no no no. She controlled herself. Kept telling herself no every time her hand began to clench up and prepare to sock him. He was oblivious, he’s not good with women, probably doesn’t get out very often. It’s ok, it’s ok, it’ll alllll be ok. With a huff of her own, Kasumi followed the man inside, having no real other place to go at this point. After a few moments of looking around at some of the people who dressed up as Kitsune, it eventually just got annoying to Kasumi. Especially after the incident only moments ago. She wasn’t very far from Grant, in fact she was still staying close by to make sure he didn’t do anything stupid with those swords. She didn’t care if she had to follow the man into his own room, she wasn’t letting him out of her sight. After all, it was her fault that he’d even gotten them in a sense. In fact, just to keep up a front of some sort, Kasumi was willing to answer any . . . serious questions that Grant had to ask, though she did walk up to him eventually and spoke softly, her hands hooked together behind her head.

“Look, I’m young by Kitsune standards, yes. In fact I could probably be considered to be a teenager if not a young adult in their twenties by our standards. Some members of our race live for thousands of years on end, growing stronger with every day. Some obtain a Nine-Tail Status, becoming incredibly strong among Yokai. Only thing is, that is rarer than anything else. And to be honest with you, my parent’s deaths aren’t bothering me anymore. We live incredibly long lives, full lives. When we leave, we leave with no regrets. Normally anyway.”

Of course, Kasumi was referencing the fact that her father himself regretted never apologizing to her uncle for what he had done. Not that anyone could really understand what that meant. Yes she was a chatter box, but she wasn’t one to be trifled with. In fact it might be better that she was talking and was in a happy-go-lucky mood. If she wasn’t, then there was a chance she was intending to kill. That’s how she was raised after all. Traditional family, traditional methods.

~it’s not easy to be me~

Being humiliated by the kitsune in public like that was just another blow to Grant’s self confidence. Sure, he seemed to take the verbal spray, but the haunting memories of his childhood and adolescence came crawling back, like maggots under his skin. Coughing, he reached into his pocket and took out a pair of thick glasses and with a shaking hand he placed the glasses on, as he then went for the program of events for this part of the week long series of conventions. The man’s shoulders seemed to gather forward, and he bowed his head as he tried to meld into the crowd and get away from that girl. Girls were something he had a lot of trouble understanding. From the first crush that he had in the fifth grade, who humiliated him by believing that she actually would go to a movie with him, to the night of the school formal when he was crushed after being set up with what he thought was the girl of his dreams. A real sweetheart, or so he thought. He was left sitting on an empty veranda with a corsage that would never be worn. it was easy, oh so easy for Grant to fall into a cycle of habit that brought him comfort. His love of comics, anime, fantasy – where in his mind he could be the hero. He could be the one that all the girls want, or be just crazy and have some sort of respect or adulation. He came to these conventions religiously. It was like a rite of passage. An escape from the real and cruel world, that he had always felt he was not a part of. Not truly. In his years since college he had opened a thriving comic book and collector store. Traveled the world collecting the bizarre and unique. Being part of table top tournaments, all the things that people considered…nerdy. So no, he didn’t understand women….and he didn’t get the Kitsune at all.

Grant was a simple human being. Nothing fancy, nothing flash and super powered. But in his heart, he wished he was.

Here he could hide behind a mask, or a costume and become something unreal. For a weekend, he could live the dream.

Right now, he was unaware that the kitsune was following him. Darting between the crowds of people dressed either partially, or fully as furries, he didn’t realize that kasumi was on his tail till he heard her voice. Turning around, he was fidgeting with his program and giving her a look like…why are you following me?”

Grant listened to what she had to say. About how being five hundred years was akin to her being a teenager, as odd as that sounded. She said that they lived incredibly long lives and that when they die, they have no regrets. If this was true, then it was a charmed life. Grant had many regrets and many times that he wished he had the guts to say what he truly felt, instead of keeping it bottled up within himself.

The wrinkling sound of the paper between his fingers would show that he was still nervous around her now.

“I’m….not good with girls.” The earlier display in the castle had a lot to do with the joy of the moment, and he lost himself in the Queen’s presence. Here, he was faced with dealing with someone that was seeing him for what he truly was. A simple man.

Kasumi at least noticed that the male was attempting to get away. But he probably could have at least remembered that she wasn’t human. Her senses were far above that of a normal creature, after all she was like a canine in some respects. She followed him mostly by sight, but in some cases her sense of smell came into play due to losing sight of him for a moment or two at a time. In this kind of crowd, even a Kitsune like Kasumi had to admit it could be difficult to stay on track of a target. Once he’d finally responded, she simply let out a small breath and set her head in one hand, giving him the courtesy of a small chuckle. Not in an insulting way, but in a way that was just amused. After having done so, she looked up at him with a calm face, speaking with a small smile on her face.

https://i1.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/17db8ac23678b70b68142b546c0a90e5.png
“Well, I’m not trying to be a bad person here, but to be frank it’s kind of obvious you’re not too good with women. But that’s fine, just watch some of the things you say and you’re fine. I’m just hot-headed, so I apologize for the scene outside.”

Kasumi ran a hand down the back of her neck, closing her eyes for a moment as her long hair ended up being pressed against her neck for a moment, only to open them again as her hand fell back to her side and she let out another small breath. This was Kasumi for you, if she was in the wrong she’d at least apologize. When it was due anyway. Her temper might go flying off the handle on occasion, but she couldn’t blame this guy for what he did. He obviously wasn’t the type who was good with women. Which wasn’t a problem, he wasn’t the only guy, in fact it only made Kasumi feel bad for having snapped without warning. But that’s how she was. After a moment, her smile returned, as she leaned up with a slightly chilling look in her eyes that showed she had some mischief in mind.

https://i0.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/afb35f4f1307b91ca4947965fbc62efe.png
“Well anyway~ Since you’re not so good with women, how about you start getting some practice in that department. And don’t get the wrong idea either. I’m going to need someone who knows what the hell they’re doing to show me around, considering I’ve never been to one of these.”

Kasumi was trying to make it up to the guy in her own way, even if she was too stubborn to say it out loud and not put up her conniving little act. She needed a distraction too. Considering she’d been let down about her uncle as well, so maybe this would be a good way to distract her. Who knew? Everything was locked away, hidden behind that happy-go-lucky and conniving attitude.

Kasumi was stating the obvious when she realized that he was not very good with his social habits around women. Really to understand women, you had to get to know them, or have some as friends. Grant didn’t have that, nor opportunities too. Maybe this would be a good thing, if he was to be like some sort of tour guide for her around the convention hotel. Though she looked to be like those dressing up, she was the real deal. No pulling or stroking her tail, that was for sure. Grant did have an urge to tweak those ears however. Odd how he found them attractive. The way that they moved and flickered. It was kinda nice. Though she was talking to him, Grant’s eyes kept going upward to the top of her head, and then back down to meet her gaze.

Grant threw his hands up in mock surrender, when Kasumi said not to get any funny ideas. Sure she was pretty and all, but getting past the fact she was really super old, was going to be a hurdle and a half.

“I won’t try anything, honest.” Which he meant, as he said it with a slight nod.

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/3a/f1/58/3af1583c9773f3937dcfaa87d03be64c.jpg

The crowds continued to move around past them, some stopping to take in Kasumi’s swinging tail, others snapped pictures with their phones and go pro devices. It was just par of the course at these sorts of things. Grant hadn’t planned to dress up today, not since he had been on the palace tour. It just didn’t enter into his head.

Thinking of where to take her, the first thing he thought was perhaps one of the convention food halls.

“Are you hungry? I know a few good places. One has an all you can eat buffet?”

Perhaps she would like to do that first, rather than have to mingle with all the suited human

Kasumi had a feeling that the kid was probably going to be fairly nervous, after all he wasn’t very good at expressing himself around women. After all, he hadn’t realized that even with all the movements of her tail and ears that they were actually real. He was just that type. Then again, there were plenty of men like him. At least he wasn’t a pervert though, she had to give him that much for sure. She actually got annoyed a lot of times, because of the very fact that some of the more . . . lecherous customers flocked to her on occasion. It was very, very vexing. And it made her want to strangle them. Even if a quick explosion of Fox-Fire nearby typically scared the bastards off. Which….. was honestly fun to do to people. Kasumi noticed him watching her ears every time they twitched, which amused her more than it bothered her. She tilted her head when he said he wouldn’t get any ideas, debating if she she should tease him or not. …Nah, time to be nice. Kasumi smiled and clapped her hands together at the mention of food. Nodding as she did. Turning slightly, she looked up at him with a calm look.

“Shall we Mister Taylor?”

With a quick, and definitely practiced motion, Kasumi stepped up next to Grant and wrapped her arms around his elbow. After all, this was how she was raised. Traditional family, traditional methods.

This is the district in which the tourists flock to as well as the people who are known to work in small entertainment establishments or eateries ; this place is also interesting due to the network of roads and aerial pathways and homes has also proved to be quite the playground for those who like it that way. The architectural perception of the place has made it out to be quite grand. It is similar to the livelihood of The Big Apple in it’s concept , not that many have to complain that is.

Kasumi was a bit glad that the male had followed her, but the very fact that he was really hyper over swords amused her greatly. By the time they had gotten to the gates, Kasumi had thrown her cloak back around her shoulders and was walking with him to the con. Somewhere she could blend in. Her mouth was hidden, and that in turn hid her conniving smirk that showed she wanted to mess with the male. Inwardly, she had to drop her jaw when he asked her who had designed her furs, and she had been tempted to say no one, maybe cluing him in on the very fact that she was not human in the least. She wasn’t a Hanyou either.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1YY4KzkvaeI/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAXQ/ZEujEK9KFks/photo.jpg

Even though she wanted to clue him in, she didn’t, she only continued to grin in a very . . . vixen-like manner, as though she had a plan up her sleeve. And slowly but surely, she did. Only, she hoped it wouldn’t backfire once she started it. The boy was definitely clueless, and too into the world of anime to really understand that she was truly inhuman. She almost, ALMOST, considered transforming into her fox form just surprise him. But decided against it as it might have caused a panic. Kasumi turned her head at the male with a very conniving smile, one that could send chills down someone’s spine if they weren’t oblivious or just unused to it. She might have had a supernatural beauty about her, but even then that didn’t change the fact she was incredibly perceptive and smart.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-25higf_BkNA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAE4/v-q0BQzlAwE/photo.jpg
“You asked who made my fur. You know it’s impolite to call someone’s fur fake, correct? Especially a lady’s~”

At the same time as she said that, Kasumi flicked her ears softly, wondering if it would clue him in. If not she’d give him another little clue, by causing her tail to wag once behind her, wondering if that would. Hopefully this didn’t backfire though, they were getting close to the furry convention. Which also meant soon Kasumi would be surrounded by wannabe Yokai, as most furries as she had seen seemed to be based off of Kitsune, Bakeneko or Nekomata, Inugami or even the occasional Tanuki. Of course, someone who didn’t know much about Yokai wouldn’t know that, and she couldn’t really blame them for that. She only hoped that her little plan to mess with the guy wouldn’t back-fire. Such as him pulling her tail or ears. It’d happened before, and no she wasn’t happy when it did. The tail was incredibly sensitive after all, being prehensile.

Kingdom of Alteria : Tourist District

Have you ever watched someone trying to use a selfie stick to take a snap shot of their back? Well, this was what Grant was doing as he was walking along with the girl that he had just met in the Throne room of the Queen. Grant was still marveling the swords that he had been gifted by the Queen. “Sure beats the ones in the gift shop.’ he was heard to say as he crossed the busy intersection. Finally bringing his selfie stick back around and taking his camera off it. He seemed to be so engrossed in his phone, that he nearly got hit by a taxi. The guy was an all around klutz. How on earth he managed to stay alive this long was a complete and utter mystery. When he approached the Queen and started showing off his videos, you could tell that he had little regard for that thing called, personal space and possible imprisonment. But, he still came out alive and with two swords too boot.

Not bad for what was a simple tour of the Palace. He had the time in his busy schedule for the tour, and with his gifts, he felt like it was well worth it. Grant continued along the street with the fur girl, as he liked to think of her. She had placed a hooded cape over herself, so she looked pretty much inconspicuous compared to most others that were milling about the city tourist area. Checking his watch, he could see that he was running a little late now, since he had taken that detour into the throne room.

“Hope the others waited for me. Really hard to tell who is who in those fur suits.” Course, he was talking about the furry convention which happened to follow right on the heels of the Comic con. “I was thinking of going as Sonic the Hedgehog, but…he has such a big head, you know?” Grant wasn’t really paying attention to the girl’s expression. Oh she kept looking up at him with that sinister grin of hers, like…she was plotting something, but he was clueless. His mind racing on all the events and conferences. It was a wonder he remembered what room he was staying in.

Course, when the girl did speak, she happened to mention the fact he asked about her fur. Her reply was implying that it was impolite to call someone’s fur fake, and especially a lady’s at that.

“I’ve seen some pretty fucked up furs in my time, Miss. Yours is pretty neat. Looks super soft. You must brush it every night, I bet.” he gave a sort of lopsided grin, and then continued along. “So…why were you seeing the Queen anyways? Didn’t think she was into keeping pets.”

Kasumi watched the boy the entire time, trying, struggling to get a picture of those damned swords that the Queen had given him. Oh dear lord, she just hoped that he didn’t plan on drawing and swinging those things around. Then she’d have to stop him and that could turn into a big misunderstanding. In public at that, which would look bad on her as a race. Yes, it was useful being in a furry con just because of the fact she’d blend in with all the people, and no one would realize that she personally was a REAL Kitsune. After all, like one might expect, there was some people who . . . well they didn’t always like Yokai like her. But that was a part of reality itself, it had happened plenty of times in history, and hopefully one day there would be a chance for people to get along PROPERLY. Who knew. All Kasumi knew was that she was forced to stop with a completely bewildered look on her face, her jaw having dropped on hearing the boy talk about coming as Sonic the Hedgehog. With a quick shake of her head, she rushed her way back up. Till she heard the boy say that she had to brush hers every night, which caused a short blush to spread across her cheeks just because it was true, but that faded immediately at the mention of being someone’s pet. She turned her head immediately, her crimson eyes narrowing with a slight bloody glow as anger coursed through her in that very second.

https://i0.wp.com/38.media.tumblr.com/0b6b1022ced7ee9ac66ed0acd27eccca/tumblr_mwe4e2w5Ve1rbyttso2_500.gif

Kasumi stopped, definitely seething as she curled her hands over and over beneath the cloak. Who in the hell did this guy think he was anyway?! Her ears were twitching, and even though the glow in her eyes disappeared it was obvious that she was NOT pleased at all. Kasumi was struggling not to go and snap on him, of course that didn’t last considering the fact that she pretty much disappeared by moving at full speed, stopping and walking alongside him for a moment before she stepped in front of him and looked up at him with an outraged look, speaking even as she did so.

https://i1.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/ec76857f5983715eb47652d66a6c548a.png
“Pet? Pet! I’m no one’s pet boy! I’m a Kitsune! A five hundred year old Kitsune who just so happens to be VERY authentic!”

Well, she was snappy, but she wasn’t done yet. Oh no, not by a long shot. Oooooh he had to hit that one sore spot for any Kitsune, especially one as hot-headed as Kasumi. He might have been oblivious to her being a Kitsune, but she was about engrave that into his memory for sure. Even if he’d gush from it, she was going to make damned sure he remembered. Oh you could believe that!

Kasumi made a single step forward, not wasting much time as she reached to grab his shirt in both hands, her cloak falling away as it was never secured completely since she never thought it would be needed. Her tail was bristling, and her ears were standing straight up, but by the fangs that had extended themselves in her mouth, she wasn’t playing in the least at all. If she had managed to get her hands in his shirt, whether by surprise or anything else, she’d speak again. This time her voice far louder.

https://i0.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/e98a6cda583d3dfcd4a9ea48b6ee76fc.png
“Get this into your skull, I’m no one’s pet nor will I ever be a pet! I will be a companion, a friend, a wife, a lover, a guardian and many other things; but I will NEVER be a pet! I have lived five hundred years without being someone’s pet, watched both of my parents die and still have been living on alone! I have been fine, and I will continue to be fine, without ever belonging to someone in any way or form!”

There were a few whistles heard in the background, some in pity for the guy mainly because of the anger he’d gotten out of her, but even so she was slowly beginning to simmer down. Even as she spoke, it showed in her eyes that the anger was simmering down. Just a minor bi-polar incident. Nothing more. Well . . . minor emotional incident, much like a teenager’s temperamental problems.

It’s one thing to have your girlfriend mad at you out in a public place, but when it is a girl that you have barely met, and then one that was about to admit to being something that even Grant had not quite spotted, that left the poor bloke dumbfounded in shock. The whistles and murmurs from the surrounding crowd meant that the girl’s outburst was causing a scene, and that had Grant rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly – trying to smile, but failing hard. The massive foot in mouth came when he made the suggestion that she was the Queen’s pet. What a clanger. Was he truly that stupid? He must have been, cause when the girl snaffled his lapel and jerked him down so that she could snarl her answer into his face, he kept blinking at her almost like he had no brain at all.

“Pet? Pet! I’m no one’s pet boy! I’m a Kitsune! A five hundred year old Kitsune who just so happens to be VERY authentic!”

“You’re a what? A Kitsune? A real…real kitsune?’ Grant could hardly believe it. Here he was in the presence of a creature that had been animated and drawn, had figures and great characters fashioned out of her likeness. Why, thousands of girls dressed up as them, but none were actual living breathing ones. And to think…she was so so old. Five hundred years made her like….a super granny type Kitsune.

“But you look so young.” He must have thought that as a kitsune ages, she…looks the part. “Don’t they have old age homes for five hundred year creatures?” Give the man a shovel. He was really digging himself into a hole.

Before she could answer his quizzical statements, she was letting him have it, with a swag of information of how she was going to be many things in this life, but not a pet. Not now, not ever. There was one bit that he didn’t understand though. If she was five hundred years old, and never HAD been a companion, wife, lover or such….was she…a five hundred year old virgin? The words will be did not mean she had. Maybe five hundred years was young in a kitsune’s age thing. Being shaken by the Kitsune as she rammed home her point of never being owned, Grant’s eyes lolled about in their sockets. It wasn’t till he fell back and tried to brush off his lapel, that he could even think to start speaking again. Not without putting his foot in it.

“Sorry about your folks. I mean that. And I’m sorry about you being really…old.”

Grant noticed everyone was staring and he muttered before saying to them all.

“Shows over…there is another one inside for you fur lovers. This is just a simple argument.” That said, he glanced back at the angry Kitsune, before huffing and turning to follow the crowd inside.
