My Top Ten Song List – Number 9.

Okay, so you know that my number ten is “Bad Moon rising”, but what is number nine you might ask?  The Monkees were another band that was played a lot in my childhood, as my mum had a huge crush on Davy Jones.

When he died  in February of 2012, I played this song again and was amazed at how well he danced in the clip.  He had groove and I can see why teenage girls adored him.  So my number nine song is “Daydream Believer” by the Monkees.

“Daydream Believer”

Oh, I could hide ‘neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings.
The six o’clock alarm would never ring.
But it rings and I rise,
Wipe the sleep out of my eyes.
My shavin’ razor’s cold and it stings.Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

You once thought of me
As a white knight on a steed.
Now you know how happy I can be.
Oh, and our good times start and end
Without dollar one to spend.
But how much, baby, do we really need.

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.
Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

[Instrumental interlude]

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.
[Repeat and fade]

Background: Born to the second son of the Old King, Dominique De Shay (Pearce) was the only child of the King’s brother, as her mother died at child birth. Raised in a wealthy environment with all the trappings of being a lesser royal, Dominique was soon to be cared for by the King himself, after her own father died tragically in a hunting accident. Kept on in her own father’s home, the King often stopped by to keep tabs on her and found her very pleasing to the eye, even though she was not far off the ages of her cousins – the Prince and Princess. Hushed whispered abound that it was the King who stole her virginity and taught her in the ways of the flesh that would see her find a liking for the darker side of life. BDSM being a favorite past time. With the gifts of wealth bestowed upon on her and also the fact she was still a Lady of the realm, the wicked Red head soon. To conceal the affair, the King ordered that she marry one of his loyal knights though it was all in name only, and she took the name De Shay. Sadly, the Knight was killed in battle not long after, and Dominique’s period of mourning was shortened at the King’s order – he hated to see her in black.

Now with the King himself in ill health and the children both vying for the throne, Lady Domi as she is known to her nearest and dearest is keeping close tabs on the situation. Which side does she take?

Her own.

Theme – Dark Horse by Katy Perry.
