One Hit Wonder – Fox – S-S-S-Single Bed.

Original promo video for UK band Fox’s smash hit single from 1976 which reached No.1 in Australia.

Lead singer Noosha Fox was originally from Australia but the group formed in the UK.

C-c-c-come,
Come inside,
Oh I’ve been expecting
You here tonight

Sh-sh-sh-shoes
Shake ’em off
While I go and turn
The music down soft

(ahhhhhh)

Oh but all I got
Is a s-single bed
Ain’t no room
For your sweet head
Now ain’t it a shame
You missed the last train
Coz all I got is a
S-single bed

S-s-s-single bed
S-single bed
There ain’t no room
For your sweet head

S-s-s-single bed
S-single bed
I got a one solitary
Lonesome
Single Bed

P-p-p-pour
Out your wine
And we could explore
Each others minds

T-t-t-time
Don’t it fly?
When the pleasures of night
Are reachin’ so high

(highhhhhh)

Oh but all I got
Is a s-single bed
There ain’t no room
For your sweet head
Now ain’t it a shame
You missed the last train
Coz all I got is a
S-single bed

S-s-s-single bed
S-single bed
There ain’t no room
For your sweet head

S-s-s-single bed
S-single bed
I got a one solitary
Lonesome
Single Bed

(Da da da da da daaa,
Baby don’t cry
Bye bye baby
Bye Bye Bye

Doo doo doo doop
Doop doo doop doo
Doop doo doop doo
Doo doo doop dee doo
Deh dah dah dah daaahh)

Oh all I got
Is a s-single bed
There ain’t no room

Glam Rock – Sherbet : Howzat.

Nothing beats a live performance, where the band and the singers are doing it without the lip sync and actually playing their instruments.  This is Sherbet’s hit “Howzat” performed in 1976, the era of Glam Rock in Australia.  The song was popular to many due to the fact the song used a cricket term, to say that the lover had been found out.

The phrase “Howzat!” was used by bowlers in cricket, to ask the umpire if they had bowled a batsman out.  1977 – 1978, was the age of the World Series Cricket series in Australia, and so this song was played relentlessly over that Summer.

You told me I was the one
The only one who got your head undone
And for a while I believed the line that you spun

But I’ve been looking at you
Looking closely at the things you do
I didn’t see it the way you wanted me to

How, how, howzat?
You messed about
I caught you out, howzat?

Now that I found where you’re at
It’s goodbye
Well, howzat? It’s goodbye

You only came for a smile
Even though you’re really not my style
I didn’t think that you’d run me ’round
Like you do

How, how, howzat?
You messed about
I caught you out, howzat?

Now that I found where you’re at
It’s goodbye
Well, howzat? It’s goodbye, aha
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Well, I’ve been looking at you
(I’ll tell you what I see)
Looking closely at the things you do
(No, you can’t fool me)
I didn’t see it the way you wanted me to

How, how, howzat?
You messed about
I caught you out, howzat?
Now that I found where you’re at
It’s goodbye

Howzat? You messed about
I caught you out, howzat?

Now that I found where you’re at
It’s goodbye
Well howzat? Goodbye
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Doo wah, doo wah, doo wah, doo wah
Doo wah, doo wah, doo wah, doo wah
Aah

Rod Stewart – You’re in My Heart

It’s Sunday morning here in Oz, so here is a wonderful song to wake up to…but also for all the lovers out there.  Rod Stewart’s You’re in my heart.  Enjoy  ~RB~

“You’re In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)”

I didn’t know what day it was
when you walked into the room
I said hello unnoticed
You said goodbye too soon

Breezing through the clientele
spinning yarns that were so lyrical
I really must confess right here
the attraction was purely physical

I took all those habits of yours
that in the beginning were hard to accept
Your fashion sense, Beardsly prints
I put down to experience

The big bosomed lady with the Dutch accent
who tried to change my point of view
Her ad lib lines were well rehearsed
but my heart cried out for you

Chorus:

You’re in my heart, you’re in my soul
You’ll be my breath should I grow old
You are my lover, you’re my best friend
You’re in my soul

My love for you is immeasurable
My respect for you immense
You’re ageless, timeless, lace and fineness
You’re beauty and elegance

You’re a rhapsody, a comedy
You’re a symphony and a play
You’re every love song ever written
But honey what do you see in me

You’re in my heart, you’re in my soul
You’ll be my breath should I grow old
You are my lover, you’re my best friend
You’re in my soul

You’re an essay in glamour
Please pardon the grammar
but you’re every schoolboy’s dream
You’re Celtic, United, but baby I’ve decided
You’re the best team I’ve ever seen

And there have been many affairs
Many times I’ve thought to leave
But I bite my lip and turn around
’cause you’re the warmest thing I’ve ever found

You’re in my heart, you’re in my soul
You’ll be my breath should I grow old
You are my lover, you’re my best friend
You’re in my soul

One Hit Wonders – Promises : Baby It’s you.

The single “Baby It’s You” became a smash hit in Europe and around the world (especially in Germany where it reached number 4 in the charts) in February 1979 and Promises received a Gold Album for more than 260,000 selling units. The song was also hugely popular in Australia, largely due to weekly programming of the original film clip on Sunday evening television music show Countdown. The song was subsequently released on a highly popular compilation album in that market. It also reached number one on the New Zealand Singles chart for five weeks. “Baby It’s You” was also a success in South Africa, also appearing on Volume 7 of that country’s long running compilation album series Pop Shop. The video received a lot of airplay on South African television too.

You’re here with me now but you’re saying
you don’t want me any more
you’re holding me now but you’re saying
you can’t see me no no more
you whisper good-bye then cling tighter to me
I can’t take no more.

Baby it’s you
who makes me feel the way that you do
you know I can’t forget you so soon
baby it’s you.

Runing your fingers through my hair
but saying you care no more
you’re kissing my ear with a heart chilling
breath that you can’t no more
laying beside me with legs all around me
I care no more oh no.

Baby it’s you
who makes me do the things that I do
you know I can’t cast aside you so soon
baby it’s you.

Changing the show
adding dramatics to help love grow
your heart is your life
cut it carefully with your knife
don’t leave the world
stay right here
don’t make don’t make anything rough.

Baby it’s you
who makes me feel the way that you do
you know I can’t forget you so soon
baby it’s you.

Baby it’s you
who makes me do the things that I do
you know I can’t cast aside you so soon
baby it’s you.
watching the pretty flowers grow
never again no summer

One Hit Wonders – Pop Muzik : M

We all have guilty pleasure in music; those songs that were the one hit wonders of the 70’s and the 80’s.  So after having compiled my top ten list, I thought it would be fun to start a new series dedicated to the pop songs that though the singer might have faded to obscurity, the song lives on.

First up, who could forget…. Pop Muzik by M.

Pop Muzik was one of the first new wave singles to top the charts. The singles popularity was bolstered by this catchy video that featured Scott as a DJ singing from behind turntables, and flanked by two female models providing the additional vocals… Or do they? One of the sight gags in the video depicted Brigit Novik dressed in blue who actually recorded the backup vocals which were mimed by the models. The song went on to have global success and had “everybody talkin’ ’bout Pop Muzik”. The original clip from1979. Boogie in a suitcase. Pop, pop, pop muzik.

Get up, get down

Radio, video, boogie with a suitcase
Your livin’ in a disco, forget about the rat race
Let’s do the milkshake, sellin’ like a hotcake
Try some, buy some fee-fi-fo-fum

Talk about pop musik
Talk about pop musik

Shoobie, doobie, do wop
I wanna dedicate this
Pop, pop, shoo wop
Everybody made it

Shoobie, doobie do wop
Infiltrate it
Pop, pop, shoo wop
Activate it

New York, London, Paris, Munich
Everybody talk about pop musik
Talk about pop musik
Talk about pop musik
Pop, pop, pop, pop musik

Singing in the subway
Shuffle with a shoe shine
Fix me a Molotov
I’m on the headline

Wanna be a gun slinger
Don’t be a rock singer
Eenie, meenie, mynie, moe
Tell me, where you wanna go

Talk about pop musik
Talk about pop musik

Shoobie doobie do wop
Lyin’ in the tree [unverified]
Pop, pop, shoo wop
Eenee, meenie
Shoobie, doobie, do wop

Pop, pop, shoo wop
You know what I mean
Hit it
Now you know what to say

Talk about pop musik
Pop pop pop pop musik

All around the world wherever you are
Dance in the street, anything you like
Do it in your car in the middle of the night
La, la, la

Dance in the super mart
Dig it in the fast lane
Listen to the countdown
They’re playin’ our song again

I can’t get jumping jack
I wanna hold, get back
Moonlight muzak
Knick, knack, patty whack

Talk about pop musik
Talk about pop musik

Shoobie, doobie, do wop
It’s all around you
Pop, pop, shoo wop
Gonna surround you

Shoobie, doobie, do wop
It’s all around

My Top Ten Song List – Number 4.

Who could forget the sing along scene in Almost famous, when the band sang this song and there was a sense of unity once more.  Tiny Dancer by Elton John is my pick for my top ten song, number four.  It’s just such a beautiful ballad with Elton’s talent as a piano man showing through.  I do remember though, that there was another version with Tony Danza instead of Tiny Dancer sung instead.  :3

Elton John : Tiny Dancer.

“Tiny Dancer”

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you’ll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she’s in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Jesus freaks out in the street
Handing tickets out for God
Turning back she just laughs
The boulevard is not that bad

Piano man he makes his stand
In the auditorium
Looking on she sings the songs
The words she knows the tune she hums

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you’ll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she’s in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

My Top Ten Song List – Number 5.

So half way through my top ten songs, this one is a bit of a classic though its not what I regard as pop.  ELO’s “Don’t bring me down”.  Appearing on the charts, it was more rock than Disco…or more like driving the nail into the Disco era coffin.  A great song with nice chord changes and a slow, hard-driving beat.  You play this one up loud!

ELO : Don’t Bring Me Down.

“Don’t Bring Me Down”

You got me runnin’ goin’ out of my mind,
You got me thinkin’ that I’m wastin’ my time.
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

You wanna stay out with your fancy friends.
I’m tellin’ you it’s got to be the end,
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down.

What happened to the girl I used to know?
You let your mind out somewhere down the road,
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

You’re always talkin’ ’bout your crazy nights,
One of these days you’re gonna get it right.
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down.

You’re lookin’ good just like a snake in the grass,
One of these days you’re gonna break your glass.
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

You got me shakin’ got me runnin’ away
You got me crawlin’ up to you everyday,
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

Dragon – Are you old enough?

Now this song might evoke some memories, or more recently it was the theme song for the  TV series “Puberty Blues” 2012 – 2014.  Written and performed by the New Zealand band, Dragon; they rose to fame in the Australian charts, thanks largely to appearances on the ABC’s Countdown.  Though they never really made it internationally, they were affectionately adopted by  Australia (as we do with most Kiwi bands….LOL).  Whilst having a string of hits in the 70’s and then doing some cover work in the 80’s, they are still known to tour today, but sadly without the lead singer, Marc Hunter who died from cancer in 1998.

Ten years in the gaoler’s eye
An’ I’m thinkin’ ’bout my baby
Looking at my life go by
Falling down the streets I’m Rome
An’ I’m laughing at the poor man
Talking to the blind man

See the lady in the street car lights
Colour ‘a la Toulouse
Television and red, red wine
So won’t you tell me
Won’t you tell me the truth

Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough oo oo
Are you old enough for love

Time goes and here we stand
Laughing at the side joke
Sinkin’ in the quick sand
The other side of another world
Scratch my back for the coloured girls
Yeah, oh yeah

I just happened to kiss someone
I got the moondog blues
You just happened to be standing there
So won’t you tell me
Won’t you tell me the truth

Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough oo oo
Are you old enough for love

See the lady in the street car lights

Television and red red wine
So won’t you tell me
Won’t you tell me the truth

Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough
Are you old enough oo oo
Are you old enough oh oh
