My Top Ten Song List – Number 3.

Most of the songs in my list are considered classics, whereas number three in my list is more contemporary.  I thought long and hard about my top three, and this one has to be in it.  I am a huge fan of Swedish house mafia, and the footage in the clip brings back such memories for me.  The lyrics are about hope…and not to give up.   So…here is number three.

Swedish House Mafia – Don’t worry child : featuring John Martin.

“Don’t You Worry Child”
(feat. John Martin)

There was a time
I used to look into my father’s eyes.
In a happy home
I was a king, I had a golden throne.
Those days are gone,
Now the memory’s on the wall.
I hear the songs
From the places where I was born.

Upon a hill across a blue lake,
That’s where I had my first heartbreak.
I still remember how it all changed.

My father said,
“Don’t you worry, don’t you worry, child.
See heaven’s got a plan for you.
Don’t you worry, don’t you worry now.”
Yeah!

“Don’t you worry, don’t you worry, child.
See heaven’s got a plan for you.
Don’t you worry, don’t you worry now.”
Yeah!

There was a time
I met a girl of a different kind.
We ruled the world,
I thought I’d never lose her out of sight.
We were so young,
I think of her now and then.
I still hear the songs
Reminding me of a friend.

Upon a hill across a blue lake,
That’s where I had my first heartbreak.
I still remember how it all changed.

My father said,
“Don’t you worry, don’t you worry, child.
See heaven’s got a plan for you.
Don’t you worry, don’t you worry now.”
Yeah!

Oh, oh, oh!
Oh, oh, oh!

See heaven’s got a plan for you
[Live version repetitions:]
See heaven’s got a plan for you
See heaven’s got a plan for you

“Don’t you worry, don’t you worry, child.
See heaven’s got a plan for you.
Don’t you worry, don’t you worry now.”
Yeah!

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh! [3x]
Yeah!

My Top Ten Song List – Number 4.

Who could forget the sing along scene in Almost famous, when the band sang this song and there was a sense of unity once more.  Tiny Dancer by Elton John is my pick for my top ten song, number four.  It’s just such a beautiful ballad with Elton’s talent as a piano man showing through.  I do remember though, that there was another version with Tony Danza instead of Tiny Dancer sung instead.  :3

Elton John : Tiny Dancer.

“Tiny Dancer”

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you’ll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she’s in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Jesus freaks out in the street
Handing tickets out for God
Turning back she just laughs
The boulevard is not that bad

Piano man he makes his stand
In the auditorium
Looking on she sings the songs
The words she knows the tune she hums

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you’ll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she’s in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

My Top Ten Song List – Number 5.

So half way through my top ten songs, this one is a bit of a classic though its not what I regard as pop.  ELO’s “Don’t bring me down”.  Appearing on the charts, it was more rock than Disco…or more like driving the nail into the Disco era coffin.  A great song with nice chord changes and a slow, hard-driving beat.  You play this one up loud!

ELO : Don’t Bring Me Down.

“Don’t Bring Me Down”

You got me runnin’ goin’ out of my mind,
You got me thinkin’ that I’m wastin’ my time.
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

You wanna stay out with your fancy friends.
I’m tellin’ you it’s got to be the end,
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down.

What happened to the girl I used to know?
You let your mind out somewhere down the road,
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

You’re always talkin’ ’bout your crazy nights,
One of these days you’re gonna get it right.
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down.

You’re lookin’ good just like a snake in the grass,
One of these days you’re gonna break your glass.
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

You got me shakin’ got me runnin’ away
You got me crawlin’ up to you everyday,
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

My Top Ten Song List – Number 6.

Time now for number six.  So…what was the song that brought the Nineties to a close in Australia and welcomed 2000?   Vanessa Amorosi’s “Absolutely Everybody”  Performed just shy of the steps of the Sydney Opera House, it was also sung at the closing of the 2000 Sydney Olympics and was something of an anthem for the generation.  It’s a song close to my heart and to this day it still gets me to my feet.   It’s pure positivity.

Vanessa Amorosi’s “Absolutely Everybody”.

“Absolutely Everybody”

(Absolutely Everybody, everybody, everybody)
(Absolutely Everybody, everybody, everybody)
(Absolutely Everybody, everybody, everybody)
(Absolutely Everybody, everybody)
Absolutely Everybody (everybody, everybody)
Absolutely Everybody, yeah (everybody, everybody)
Absolutely Everybody (everybody, everybody)
Absolutely Everybody, yeah (everybody)

Everybody needs a little loving
Everybody needs somebody thinking of them
Everybody needs a little respect
And whatever it takes, I’m gonna get it

Everybody needs a hand to hold
Someone to cling to when the nights are getting cold
I’m no different, I am just the same
A player in the game

Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody
Absolutely everybody in the whole wide world
Absolutely everybody
Every boy and every girl
Absolutely everybody, yeah (everybody)

Everybody needs a human touch
I can’t live without it, it means too much to me
Everybody needs one true friend
Someone who’ll be there until the very end

And absolutely everybody breathes
And everybody, everybody bleeds
We’re no different, we’re all the same
Players in the game

Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody
Absolutely everybody in the whole wide world
Everybody breathes
And everybody needs
Absolutely everybody, yeah

Absolutely everybody (everybody)
Absolutely everybody, yeah (woah)
Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody (players in the)
Absolutely everybody, yeah (game)

Every boy and girl
Every woman and child
Every father and son
I said now everyone
Yes, now everyone

Everybody needs a human touch
Everybody, everybody needs love
I’m no different, I am just the same
A player in the game

Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody
Absolutely everybody in the whole wide world
Everybody breathes
And everybody needs
Absolutely everybody, yeah

Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody
Absolutely everybody in the whole wide world
Everybody breathes
And everybody needs
Absolutely everybody, yeah

Absolutely everybody (yeah)
Absolutely everybody
Absolutely everybody, everybody, everybody (woah)
Absolutely everybody, yeah (everybody)

Absolutely Everybody

My Top Ten Song List – Number 8.

So far, I have worked out numbers 10 and 9….but 8…well, 8 happened to really help me, I suppose.  A song that makes me recall a great personal loss.  Struggling to understand how we can be given a gift and then have it taken away.  Not all the songs in this list are going to be cheerful ones, but as it is the song list of my life, then this one must be included.

Eric Clapton’s Tears in Heaven.

“Tears In Heaven”

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong
And carry on,
‘Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven.

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?

I’ll find my way
Through night and day,
‘Cause I know I just can’t stay
Here in heaven.

Time can bring you down,
Time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart,
Have you begging please, begging please.

Beyond the door,
There’s peace I’m sure,
And I know there’ll be no more
Tears in heaven.

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong
And carry on,
‘Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven.
